Guru Me (guru-me.app and the Guru Me Android app) lets you ask questions of teachers from the world's contemplative traditions and receive AI-generated answers drawn from their texts. This page explains what we collect and why. We do not sell personal data and we show no advertising.
What we collect
- Account details, if you create an account: your name and email address, and a securely hashed password (we never store the password itself). If you sign in with Google we receive your name, email address and profile picture from Google.
- Your questions and the answers. If you are signed in, your conversations are saved to your account so you can return to them. If you are not signed in, questions are processed to produce an answer and are not saved to an account.
- Anonymous usage counts: which pages are viewed, how many questions are asked to which teacher, whether a visit came from the web or the Android app, and an optional source tag (for example a QR code printed in a book). These are linked only to a random identifier stored in your browser, not to your name, email or IP address.
- Reports and messages you send us (for example reporting an answer, or the contact form), including the email address you give us to reply to.
- Technical logs: our web server briefly keeps standard request logs (IP address, time, page requested, browser type) to protect the service against abuse. They are not used for analytics.
- On your device only: your journal entries, your assessment results and some preferences are stored in your browser's local storage and never leave your device.
Who processes your data
- Groq, Inc. (United States) runs the AI models that write the answers. The text of your question, the recent conversation and passages from the source texts are sent to Groq to generate each answer. Your name and email are not sent.
- Hetzner Online GmbH (Germany) hosts our servers and database in the EU.
- Google, if you choose "Sign in with Google".
- Stripe, only if you make a payment on the website. Payment details go directly to Stripe; we never see your card number. No payments are taken inside the Android app.
Why (legal basis)
We process account data and conversations to provide the service you asked for (contract). We keep anonymous usage counts and technical logs to keep the service working, secure and improving (legitimate interest). Where you contact us, we use your email only to reply.
How long we keep it
- Account data and saved conversations: until you delete your account.
- Database backups: 14 days, after which deleted data is gone from backups too.
- Anonymous usage counts: up to 24 months. Technical logs: a few weeks at most.
- Reports and messages: up to 24 months.
Your rights and deleting your data
You can delete your account and all of its conversations at any time: sign in, open You → Account and choose Delete my account. If you cannot sign in, use the account deletion request form. You may also ask us for a copy of your data, or to correct it, through the contact form. If you are in the EU you have the right to complain to your data protection authority (in Romania, ANSPDCP).
Children
Guru Me is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Important
Answers are generated by AI from historical texts. They can be wrong, and they are not medical, psychological, legal or financial advice. If you are in crisis, contact local emergency services.
